Qurbon Hayit (Yid-ul-Adha)
The religious holiday Qurbon Hayit or Qurbon Bairam, is a day dedicated
to good and occupies a significant place in the social and cultural
life of the Republic of Uzbekistan. This is one of the great Muslim
holidays celebrated all over the world. Its ancient roots are found
in the biblical story about Ibroghim (Abraham) and his willingness to
sacrifice his son. But a merciful God provides a substitute in the form
of a lamb. This holiday has especial importance for pilgrims going on
the Haj to Mecca. Every year thousands of pilgrims join others at Mecca’s
sacred sites. An independent Uzbekistan respecting the religious affiliation
of its citizens has made it possible for many pilgrims to go on the
haj. Those who celebrate Qurbon Hayit at home, visit friend and relatives
or meet with guests, help the sick, the lonely and old people after
completing required rituals.

religion treats fasting as a means to get rid of human passion born
of instincts and spiritual upbringing. It is also used to remember deceased
relatives, to visit aged and sick people and to perform charitable work.
